Road Safety Management in Organisations and the South African Context

Road safety as a systematic issue in organisations. The South African statistics and status of road safety. To define the role of management and operational procedures.

Road Traffic Safety Management System (ISO 39001:2012)

ISO 39001:2012 specifies requirements for a road traffic safety (RTS) management system to enable an organisation that interacts with the road traffic system to reduce death and serious injuries related to road traffic crashes which it can influence.

Road Safety Audits: A Proactive Approach to Risk Reduction

This is a proactive approach to investigate road plans before construction to reduce risk and mitigate severity, and also existing roads to reduce risk of accidents based on practical knowledge of hazardous road conditions.

Road Traffic Signs and Human Factors

Provide background on the design and function of signs (including traffic signals) from the human factors point of view.

Road Safety Engineering and Design Principles

Why are roads designed as they are: design assumptions such as reaction time, vehicle dynamics, sight distance, roadside safety.

Understanding and Investigating Road Traffic Accidents

What can we learn from the Road Safety Status publication of RTMC: who is at risk (highest for males 25 to 25). What to look for in investigating an accident: brake marks, yaw marks, measurements, photos of crash scene.

Documentation
A compendium of the PowerPoint presentations, assignment information and references of useful literature.

Assessment
The candidates will compile a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) of the content learned for each theme. The PoE will consist of definitions, descriptive opinions, analysis, specific questions and personal testimony.
